| The Nursery
The nursery is staffed by qualified early years practitioners. Our ratios are within those required by the CSIW (Care Standards Inspectorate for Wales).
The nursery is organised into separate units according to the ages of the children, offering environments in which to learn and play.
The baby area has a ratio of one adult per three babies. There is a sleeping room within the baby area as well as a changing room and sensory area. All equipment and activities within this area are age appropriate. Although babies spend most of the time in their area we very much encourage times of the day to be set aside where babies can spend time amongst the older children.
The 2-3’s have their own special area within the nursery which contains age appropriate activities and equipment. This room is open-plan which allows the children supervised access to other areas of the nursery where they can develop their curiosity, their independence and their social skills.
When the children are approximately three years old, they move into the Foundation Stage group. At this point their development is overseen by a qualified early years teacher. In many cases this stage of a child’s life is seen very much as a preparation for school. At Little Steps we choose to celebrate the 3-5 years as a distinct phase of childhood where the world opens up to be explored and enjoyed!
We have a great outdoor space for the children to make their own. It is secure, shaded and is linked directly to the main building.
