The Explorers Room is dedicated to children under the age of 2. The room has a mixture of soft and hard flooring which makes a natural divide. The room is adjacent to the kitchen. The hard-floored area is sub split into cot area and table area. There are five cots in the cot area, along with a comfy chair for nursing, some alternative child seating such as bouncer chairs, a storage unit and a rug. The cots are arranged in order that privacy is maintained when the practitioner is changing the children’s nappies or clothing. Privacy screening on windows in a soft lemon colour enables children to rest with natural light but also privacy from non-stakeholders at the setting. The second half of the hard floor area is based near a water supply and sink unit. It is also nearest the welcome area. This area contains tables for mealtimes, tables for activities, as well as a tuff spot for wet activities/sand etc. Highchairs are arranged in a circle at mealtimes for socialising.
The rest of the room is carpeted, low fenced and is dedicated to play space. There are a variety of stimulating pieces of equipment such a play tent, kitchen, bookcase, bubble tunnel and children’s resources are dotted around in easily accessible boxes. The room is a purpose-built classroom therefore is bright, airy, modern and it has auto regulated temperature control.

Other Information
We ensure that access to rest is available at all times.
Incidental Welsh language is a requirement of the curriculum. Wall displays should reflect the use of Welsh within our setting.
Nappies changes are not include in the above routine as nappies need to changed as and when required. Sleep time is normally in the morning or after lunch, this is mentioned above but we work around the children’s needs.
It is up to us as Key Workers to carefully identify each child’s individual needs regarding sleep and nappy changes and to record this efficiently at the setting and on the children’s Blossom.
